Melissa Alexander is obsessed with vulnerability.

To be clear, vulnerability and growth form the foundation of her work. In particular, she focuses on the inter-relational intimacy that exists within the Black American community, encouraging the model and viewer to lay down their guard. Her work is her protest, her rebellion, her chance to strengthen the Black narrative that has been washed, overlooked, and undervalued.

She’s a big fan of A Tribe Called Quest, Conan the Barbarian, Zora Neale Hurston, and the aesthetic of Blade Runner. Currently, she is working on projects related to bridging the gap between womb health awareness and art through her Around The Way Dreams project.
